Interior designer’s colorful Manhattan Apartment

Lindsey Harper, an Interior Designer in New York, decorates and showcases her own small Upper East Side apartment. She utilizes sumptuous upholstery, bold colors, and ubiquitous animal prints. The plush velvet sofa is flanked by etageres on either side to create balance and detract from the white walls. In the small space, Harper created a powerful focal point with striped curtains framing the apartment’s one window.

The glossy coffee table featured here is from her own furniture line that she designs with her friend, Maggie Currey. A zebra rug layered over a sisal carpet adds a layer of richness.

A chrome bar cart holds the makings of a cocktail party, above which hangs Harper’s inspiration board filled with layers of invitations, snapshots, and souvenirs. The spacious board allows her to hang important papers rather than creating messy piles.

Harper’s small entry hall comes on strong, demanding attention from the exotic patterns on the walls and floor. The wallpaper is a small-scale zebra stripe. The console table is a great touch for a small entryway since it does not take up a lot of space, yet is great for dropping keys and mail.

On a console table just inside the door, a vintage lamp and Foo dogs add color, while a framed commercial sign rewards the observant visitor.

The bed is situated just inside the entry to the bedroom. The bed is distinguished by a beautiful upholstered chocolate satin tufted headboard which provides a dramatic backdrop to crisp white linens. An antique Suzani textile covers the foot of the bed. Swing-arm lamps on either side of the bed helps to preserve precious table space.

A vignette has been created on Harper’s chest of drawers, displaying her collection of jewelry and accessories. A thrift store painting hangs over a vintage chest, which demonstrates Harper’s flair for bargain shopping.

In the tiny bathroom, a python-covered side table holds a collection of assorted supplies and decorative accents including an old-school red telephone and a decanter filled with mouthwash. The shower curtain features a wide chocolate brown hem on a crisp white linen panel.

Pale aqua piping follows the scalloped edge of the headboard. Crisp bedding with chocolate accents is feminine without being frilly.

Harper collects zebra items and displays them throughout, from a paper-mache zebra mask in her bathroom to a rug under her coffee table to this ceramic figurine she keeps by her bed.

This small bathroom is all about fun; from the Scalamandre zebra print wallpaper to the carnival mask perched on the towel rod. A framed antique black and white print is a great solution to adding artwork to a colorful, busy wall.

Harper’s choice of reading materials on her book shelves reflects her Southern heritage as well as her passion in fashion and design. The chrome shelves were replaced with wooden ones to support her book collection.

The ambient hues and textures of Harper’s furnishings create a vivid palette. The mirrored wall behind the sofa draws out the contrasting colors around the space. The coral pillow adds vibrant color to the dark velvet.

Coral piping and buttons accent a chair covered in Pindler & Pindler chocolate linen fabric.
