Glam coastal home on British Columbia’s Sunshine Coast
Designer Dawna Jones shares with us her modern but inviting home on British Columbia’s Sunshine Coast, near Vancouver, where expansive windows make the most of the stunning ocean views. See how she used hits of wood and a mix of mid-century and custom furniture to warm the large open rooms and graphic black and white color scheme. Check out her home’s large eat-in kitchen with sliding doors that open to the deck to create an indoor-outdoor lifestyle that’s perfect for entertaining. Quality craftsmanship is evident in this “warm modern” setting, blending natural elements of metal, wood, glass and stone. Other features in this 3,368 square foot home include large finished workshop and garage, wine cellar, media room, second laundry, outdoor shower and 1000 gallon rainwater tank.
The main living area has generous space for entertaining, including a kitchen with deluxe appliances, dining room, and a “window wall” that opens onto a spacious deck.
There is a total of three bedrooms and four-and-a-half bathrooms.
The master suite has panoramic ocean views, two south facing sundecks, double vanities and rain shower with heated floors.
Listed for sale at 1,349,000, from here.

What is it with Pacific Northwest homes that grayness and Asian influences seem to sneak in? The grays are depressing. The harsh blacks don’t help. The blonde woods look fake. There are so many shades of gray, white, and beige. There’s no warmth and no real color of any kind. Everything looks cold, bleak, and sterile. Even the art is bad. Why bother building this home? Who would want to live in this ugly palace of grays? The silver letters that spell “ENJOY” hanging on the wall say it all. The designers have to tell the homeowners to enjoy it. It certainly wouldn’t happen on its own. Next time, let the design do the talking for you.
