Impressive modern vacation retreat set in Sonoma wine country

Modern Vacation Home-Swatt Miers Architects-01-1 Kindesign

This modern vacation retreat was designed by Swatt | Miers Architects, located in Healdsburg, a city in the wine country region of Sonoma County, California. Set on a nine-acre property, this dwelling is ideally positioned on a hillside setting overlooking the Dry Creek Valley. The homeowners are a couple with two children who were looking to have a casual retreat to enjoy spending quality family time together.

The residence consists of approximately 3,000 square feet of living space, with four bedrooms. The architects devised a floor plan with two parallel wings, which are slightly offset to conceive a linear entry court. The west wing of the home encompasses the main living spaces on the lower level, while the master bedroom suite is located on the upper level. The east wing features the children’s and the guest bedrooms. Outside, a 50-foot long pool further emphasizes the linearity of the building envelope.

The pendant drop lights are made by Bocci and are fairly customizable. The flooring is limestone tile coated with a sealer, while the windows and doors were manufactured by Jeld-Wen.

What We Love: This fascinating vacation retreat features a wonderful flow from inside to outside. Although modern in design, the heavy use of wood on both interior/exterior adds warmth to the living environment. The high ceilings helps make the atmosphere feel open and airy—while stylish modern furnishings adds to the visually pleasing aesthetic… Readers, please leave a comment on your thoughts, would this be your idea of a dream home?
