Stunning seaside home on Cape Breton with magnificent ocean views

contemporary-exterior

This seaside home was designed by Omar Gandhi Architect in collaboration with Jill Greaves Design, located in Inverness, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada. Set atop a hillside, this contemporary dwelling honors the vernacular style of Canada’s east coast, while maximizing views. From the main road, this house appears to be a single-story residence. While on the opposing side, following the hillside, is a second level of modern glass with cedar cladding.

The entrance is on the second level, opening into the main living spaces. This includes the living and dining room and kitchen. The main stairwell is flanked by a double volume of glass. The lower level encompasses the bedrooms, family room and laundry room. The master bedroom is clad on three sides with glass, giving it the ultimate view. The children’s bedrooms are finished with bright playful colors which radiate from the mature modern cedar form of the house.

What We Love: This seaside home features a minimal cedar clad exterior that opens into an interior of simple, clean lines. The main living space showcases a wall of glass that perfectly frames wonderful views of the ocean. The view creates a serene living environment for the homeowners and their guests. We love how the home steps down the hillside, affording privacy to the bedrooms from the street. Overall a beautifully designed home… Readers, what do you think of the design of this home? Stepping out from the free-standing tub, the honeycomb basalt tile is soft underfoot. The undermount sink and stone counter are solid and smooth, as is the walnut accent wall. The mirror amplifies the available natural light and as an added feature, has a built-in night-light.
