This fascinating modern beach house showcases a shoji concept of translucency designed by Ed Niles Architect, located on Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu, California. The home was originally built for Dr. Wei-Tzuoh Chen, a kidney specialist who wanted a family weekend retreat from his hectic schedule. With soaring 29 foot high ceilings and walls of fiberglass pull nature in, while walls of windows in the kitchen and living area filter light in and helps frame never-ending ocean views. Concrete walls and steel beams adds clean lines and a industrial aesthetic mixed with Feng Shui design elements. The exterior of the residence was designed to be humble while achieving harmony with its surrounding environment. “A nuanced panel effect draws the sea air in, creating a natural air flow throughout the home.” The beach house offers a main open concept living space and chef’s kitchen, which has a seamless connection to an outdoor living space with BBQ, buffet line and views out to the ocean. A casual dining area also has ocean views. There are four en-suite bedrooms in the main house, which includes a luxurious master suite with dramatically curved window walls. There is a separate guest house on the property.
