The project, designed by Lindsey Brown Studio, is situated in St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands, was inspired by a client’s passion for sailing, climatic conditions influence many design elements such as breezeways, pools, covered areas and orientation. Integration of inventive screening devices prevents hurricane damage to glazed areas. We are working with European scrim maker to develop rolling screening material that is impact and rust resistant. Courtyard design encourages users to interact with each other and the environment while circulating the radial plan. Engineering of grading (cut and fill) equalized to prevent any on or off site hauling of soil. Semi-earthen structure will provide geothermal conditioning of pool water and thermal mass of concrete structure. Materials have been chosen to mimic the colors and textures of the rock face bluff that extends to the coral beach.
